I keep this blog for several reasons: I enjoy participating in the Book Blogosphere, seeing what everyone else is reading, getting ideas and inspiration from them, and I like sharing what I have read. I don't generally write book reviews as such, rather I write about what I would like to read and challenges I set myself, and then I write about what the books I have read make me think about. I'm just sharing with you how the book relates to me or I relate to it, in whatever way it does.
Another reason why I keep this blog is to be a little more organised. I want to read everything, and this way I can keep track and plan a lot better. I can be a little military, but it doesn't bother me!
I have a fairly extensive library and I do love my books, but I'm not too precious about them. I look after them insofar as if, for example, my boyfriend wants to see the book in my hand and I can't be bothered to get up to pass it to him, I'll slide it over the floor rather than throw it at him. If you were to spill coffee on my book, obviously I'd rather you didn't but I'd still be your friend. I have no problem breaking the spines of them if it makes them easier to hold (in fact, I rather enjoyed breaking the spine of Ulysses, but that's another story).
I like English Literature most of all, but am getting more into American, French, and Russian Literature. My knowledge of poetry is woeful (though I love Ted Hughes) and I really need to read more non-fiction. My favourite authors are Virginia Woolf, Anne Brontë, Vladimir Nabokov, Dante, Charles Dickens, Virgil, Émile Zola, and P. G. Wodehouse.

Hey,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to tell you how much I Iove your blog! I've been reading it for months and in fact it has impressed me so much that it actually inspired me to launch a blog of my own. I am fascinated by your way to look at literature and I dare say that although I have never even spoken to you, you are inspiring me to be a better reader with every new post. And in my world being a better reader means being a better person.
Thank you

Thanks for following my blog! I've added yours to my blogroll so I can follow yours more closely.
ReplyDeleteHey O. Since your blog is one of my favorites and one where I'm sure each new post will be an interesting one - and even though we disagree on Clarissa! - I've nominated you for the Booker Award. I don't know if you like getting awards or not but I just see them as a reminder to remember to thank the bloggers who write the blogs we each love and cherish. So thank you! If you want to receive it, you can read about it here: http://christinarosendahl.wordpress.com/2012/12/08/the-booker-award/
ReplyDeleteLove this blog. Love your spirit. Despite living in super literary Brooklyn I find myself feeling like an egotistical goof at times when I set these challenges for myself. And like you, not into giving reviews at all. I have just purchased Clarissa and I tomorrow is Day One. I have the most unrealistic goal of trying to finish the whole book in five weeks. Thanks again for the blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Neil, and good luck with it! It may surprise you - at first, I was overwhelmed and found it very difficult, but I soon got into it. Five weeks is perfectly reasonable :)
ReplyDeleteSo I know I've done this before but a good thing can be repeated. So I've given you the Blogger of the Year 2012 award. Read more here: http://christinarosendahl.wordpress.com/2013/02/21/blog-of-the-year-2012/
