And so it is over, the first readathon of the year! I may have only managed twelve hours, but it was a good one - a very good one - and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so thanks to The Classic Club for organising it!
As for reading:
- Finally I read A Russian Gentleman by Sergei Aksakov
- The Water-Babies by Charles Kingsley
- A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute
- The Blessing by Nancy Mitford
- Carlyle's House by Virginia Woolf
- One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
- And I dutifully read my Canto, Canto IV of Book I, of The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser.
Aside from Virginia Woolf, all these authors were new to me and Nancy Mitford was by far the most successful. And this readathon got me to book number 70 on my Classics Club list, book 87 for my 100 Greatest, and book 311 since I started blogging in July 2011! A very good readathon!
But, I'm not done. I'm going to make a Sunday dinner, then I'm going to spend the rest of the day reading, but what I don't know! I'm thinking of starting Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, or perhaps The Three Musketeers. I also have some ironing and other bits and bobs to do, but something, something, will be started today. I like to think I'll get a good five hours in!
Meanwhile, let it be said, the budgies have been very busy, far too busy to read!

I hope everyone else had a fun readathon and a good weekend!

You did really well :)
ReplyDeleteHow did you find One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich? That was the book that gave me the confidence to approach Russian literature.
Wow, oh wow! That was a seriously productive 12 hours! Congrats. :)
ReplyDeleteVery productive!
ReplyDeleteYou're feeding my inferiority complexes, honey! ;)
ReplyDeleteI will join Caro in not wondering about your inhuman abilities anymore... I read through the night and only finished two books.
Is the Faery Queene really so bad? I had planned to start it around Easter, but I might reconsider that!
You are a reading machine and I love it. Don't worry about choosing between Cloud Atlas and The Three Musketeers, you're perfectly capable of reading both (which scares me a little, truth be told. :D)
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by the two Russian titles in that list. Are they good? I should add more Russian literature to my TBR list.
Yep, I read with the speed (and sensitivity) of an out of control freight train :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes - both Russians were good, though Aksakov was hard work! :)
How in the world have you already read 70 books on your Classics Club list?!
ReplyDeleteTo be fair all I read are classics :)
